It's simply part of Christmas: the cosy atmosphere, the spicy aromas and the unique flavours of the Christmas market in the Ravenna Gorge. There are traditional crafts and Christmas music to experience, while a varied range of food and drink offers something for every taste. Steep, wooded hills of the Ravenna gorge in Breitnau, the Galgenbühl at Hofgut Sternen and the 40 metre high railway viaduct of the Höllental railway frame this market.

The 50th Christmas market in the Breisgau metropolis of Freiburg is taking place this year until 23 December. A total of 134 market stalls are spread across seven locations in the city centre (Turmstraße, Rotteckring, Unterlinden, Kartoffelmarkt, Franziskanerstraße, Colombipark and Rathausplatz). On the Advent Sundays, a further 15 stalls offer their products on Kaiser-Joseph-Strasse.
On 6 December, Father Christmas will be handing out presents to children on Rathausplatz from 5 pm. On the other days, young visitors can get active themselves: They can make their own candles in the candle workshop in Franziskanerstraße or bake their own biscuits in the bakery at the potato market every day from 2 pm (registration and participation fee required).
Moments of contemplation and peace are also possible: from 1 December, St. Martin's Church on Rathausplatz invites you to a contemplative Advent meditation every day at 5.30 pm.
Every day until 22 December, the Waldshut Christmas market brings the beautiful old town between the two town gates to life with atmospheric lighting. The wooden stalls, framed by green fir trees, create an idyllic picture and put visitors in a festive mood weeks before Christmas Eve. The scent of Christmas biscuits, crêpes, bratwurst, Feuerzangenbowle and hot mead is everywhere. With a tempting atmosphere for strolling, shopping and savouring. With over 30 market stalls and an exceptionally beautiful Christmas pyramid, the Waldshut Christmas market is the largest and, in terms of duration, the longest on the Upper Rhine. The market offerings are correspondingly larger and more varied: from traditional wooden Christmas decorations and Schwipp bows from the Ore Mountains; smokers and cosy fur hats to jewellery and leather goods. There is something for everyone. Anyone looking for ideas for presents for their loved ones is sure to find some inspiration here.
Opening hours:
The Waldshut Christmas market is open daily from 11 am to 8 pm until 22 December. The food stalls offer specialities until 10 pm.
