A wellness weekend for couples needs above all time for each other. At the Wellnesshotel Sonnenhof & Sonnhalde in Ühlingen-Birkendorf, in the southern High Black Forest at 800 metres above sea level, you will find a Wellness area on three levels with saunas, indoor pool and relaxation rooms – and a restaurant in the house.
Wellness weekend for couples: what awaits the two of you
Our indoor spa area covers 450 m², the outdoor area 1,650 m². The spa area is open daily from 09:00 to 20:00. For your wellness holiday as a couple, the following are available, among other things:
- Panoramic sauna with forest view (Finnish sauna, 12:00 to 20:00)
- Garden sauna (swimwear allowed; 14:00 to 20:00)
- Herbal steam sauna (bio sauna; 16:00 to 20:00)
- Indoor pool (84 m²)
- "Garden" relaxation area with infrared and deluxe relaxation loungers
- "Waldblick" relaxation area with deluxe relaxation loungers
- Kneipp water-treading pool and two wellness tea stations
- Sunbathing lawns “Garden” (300 m²) and “Forest View” (1,350 m²)
The sauna is open to those aged 16 and over.
A weekend for two – our suggestion
This is what a romantic weekend in the Black Forest might look like. It is a suggestion that you can adapt to your wishes:
Friday: arriving
Check-in is possible from 15:00. After that there is time for the herbal steam sauna (bio sauna, 16:00 to 20:00) or a swim in the indoor pool, before the gourmet menu rounds off the day.
Saturday: time for wellness
After the breakfast buffet, the spa area opens at 09:00. From 12:00 the panoramic sauna with forest view is open, and in the afternoon the garden sauna (swimwear allowed, from 14:00). In between, the relaxation rooms and the tea stations invite you to rest; the afternoon snack buffet “sweet & savoury” is part of our packages. If you wish, you can book a massage.
Sunday: winding down
After the breakfast buffet there is still time for the spa area. Departure is by 11:00. With the Happy Wellness Special you can use the spa area before check-in and after check-out.

Wellness for two for a day: the Day Spa
Would you like to start by spending just a day together? Then visit our Day Spa, daily from 09:00 to 20:00. The packages cost per person (as of October 2026): “Schwarzwald Light” €29.90 (admission and spa bag), “Schwarzwald” €45.90 (plus afternoon snack buffet) and “Schwarzwald Plus” €59.90 (plus country breakfast buffet from 07:30). Good to know: sauna and health
Using a sauna puts a strain on the circulation. According to the Apotheken Umschau people with high blood pressure or heart disease should not underestimate the strain and should seek medical advice beforehand. The same applies to diabetics who inject insulin. Anyone who is acutely ill, for example with a cold or fever, should not go into the sauna. Alcohol before or during sauna bathing is considered particularly risky. This information does not replace medical advice.
Arrival
From Zurich Airport the journey takes a good hour, from EuroAirport Basel 1 hour 45 minutes. By train you travel to Seebrugg or Waldshut-Tiengen and take the bus to the Birkendorf Außendorf stop.
